UV: UNCOVERED

Summer Camp!

In our 3-day summer camp at Pinecrest Elementary School, we taught elementary students about the importance of staying safe under the sun and taking protective measures against UV. Through fun bracelet making, sunglasses decorating, painting, and outdoor activities, we hope to have made a lasting impression on our group! Targeting this age group, we hope to have inspired our class to build healthy habits that they will carry on lifelong, protecting themselves from UV-induced diseases in the future!

Williams Middle Magnet School Lesson

Project Prevent UV delivered a lesson to local middle school students, warning them about the dangerous effects of UV radiation and encouraging them to develop consistent sun-safe habits. Students discussed UV-Induced skin diseases like cell carcinomas and melanoma skin cancer, as well as UV-induced eye diseases like Macular Degeneration and Cataracts. We provided our students with Augmented Reality Headsets, allowing them to step into the shoes of someone with eye diseases. This immersive technology gave students a firsthand experience of the real dangers of ultraviolet radiation!

Lutz Preparatory Middle School Lesson

Project Prevent UV delivered its first informational lesson at Lutz Preparatory Middle School! Students were taught about the dangerous effects and harmful diseases caused by ultraviolet radiation, as well as ways to stay safe under the sun. Our middle schoolers tested their new knowledge (from our immersive slideshow) with a fun handcrafted board game! At question spaces, students answered game cards with direct facts from our lesson. At frequently dispersed checkpoint spaces, students solved real-life scenarios using 3D models at the center of the board. Students ended their lesson by mixing learning with some friendly competition!
