This line graph represents the average number of new melanoma cases, including both
invasive and noninvasive, in the United States from 2010-2025. Melanoma is the most
serious form of skin cancer, and can be treated if caught early. One example of this is
the situ phase, or stage 0, when the cancer only exists on the epidermis. Overall, the
number of cases has increased each year, with a noticeable drop from 2018-2019. Over
the last four years, the number of cases has skyrocketed significantly, reaching over
200,000 per year. This highlights the importance of sun protection and education, as
sun cancer cases will only continue to rise.
